Stricklandgate House
Emil Eve have been working with the Stricklandgate Trust to develop a strategic vision for the Grade II Listed Stricklandgate House in Kendal, Lake District.
The key themes of exploration have been:
• To celebrate and reflect the historic spirit of Kendal and the Maude family
• To create a new community hub for Kendal
• To develop a long-term vision of Stricklandgate House with sustainability to take centre stage
Emil Eve have undertaken consultation with users, stakeholders and planning and heritage officers in their holistic design proposal for the complex of buildings. The proposal will open up this historic building to locals and visitors creating a vibrant destination at the heart of the town.
The scheme incudes the restoration of the Georgian Townhouse to create comfortable workspaces, counselling rooms and communal spaces for local charities. The Coach House will become a food bank and training kitchen serving the community cafe at the centre of the Community Hub, which will also incorporate low-cost workstations for local residents. The Sustainability Hub will showcase the green technologies which will form part of the building’s energy upgrade alongside an interactive exhibition which will form part of a climate-focused public programme. Dedicated exhibition spaces will display the Trust’s collection of maps, models, artefacts and photographs dedicated to the rich history of Kendal and Stricklandgate House.
The Trust is currently in the process of obtaining funding to realise this project.
