Emil Eve Architects have extended a Victorian property in Hackney to create a calm monochromatic loft space, with custom-made joinery paired with expansive glazing and a textural materials palette.
The large mansard extension adds a full storey of accommodation to the mid-terrace house, which is situated in the Northwold and Cazenove Conservation Area in Clapton, North London.
The generous bedroom has been lined with bespoke joinery including slatted panelling and bedhead incorporating storage cabinetry, a full-height dressing area and a large window seat integrated below a full-width window, which can slide and pivot entirely open. A jet-cut aluminium balustrade enables maximum views across rooftops and trees.
Within the light-filled bedroom, all surfaces have been finished in the same tone creating a clean and contemporary feel. In the ensuite, graphic terrazzo tiles have been coupled with a textured plaster finish which continues up to frame the dramatic shower rooflight.
